El proyecto se fundamenta en la creación de un patio que articula los edificios existentes y el nuevo centro Madrid Adults del British Council, dando un papel importante a la relación del edificio histórico conocido como “el palacete” y el nuevo edificio.
El nuevo centro de enseñanza se compone de dos volúmenes perpendiculares en forma de T unidos por un puente. Consta de dos plantas, una de ellas semi-enterrada y abierta al gran patio. El edificio tiene una cubierta plana ajardinada que la convierte en una quinta fachada que puede ser observada desde el palacete y los edificios de alrededor. Se han tenido muy en cuenta los aspectos de sostenibilidad y eficiencia energética para el diseño del edificio.
El edificio tiene una superficie de 1.500 m2, con 25 aulas, espacios polivalentes y una capacidad total de 3.000 alumnos. Con esta intervención se ha conseguido un centro de estudios situado en pleno centro de Madrid con un entorno moderno, luminoso y tranquilo, perfecto para el aprendizaje.
The project is based on the creation of a courtyard that articulates the existing buildings and the new Madrid Adults Centre, playing an important role in the relationship between the historical building known as "the palace" and the new building.
The Learning Centre consists of two perpendicular volumes in the shape of a T joined by a bridge. It consists of two floors, one of them semi buried which opens onto the large courtyard. The building has a landscaped flat roof which converts it into a fifth façade that can be observed from the palace and the surrounding buildings. Aspects of sustainability energy efficiency have been taken into careful consideration in the design of the building.
The building has a surface area of 1.500 m2, with 25 classrooms, multipurpose spaces and a total capacity of 3.000 students. This project has created the perfect Learning Centre located in the heart of Madrid with a modern, bright and quiet environment.
