Fenwick Iribarren won the international competition convened by R.C.D. Espanyol for a new football stadium, new headquarters and the integration of the adjacent buildings.  The competition finalists included architects such as HOK, Jean Nouvel, and Arquitectónica.

The brief required the construction of a stadium for up to 40000 spectators, new offices, a club museum and a 4.000 m2 hotel.  Its most distinctive features include the stadium bowl, with magnificent clear views of the pitch, and the roof which appears to float on top of four enormous girders that are up to 200 m. in length. The façades are designed as a floating curtain wall using varying tones of blue which are the club colours.
