El Portet Retail and Leisure Park

In a prime location, on land reclaimed from the Mediterranean Sea in Denia´s Marina, Fenwick Iribarren designs this small Retail & Leisure Centre, formed by two single storey blocks, outdoor areas to be used as parking spaces, and a large public plaza which opens onto Denia’s Marina, overlooking the city of Denia, its castle and Montgó Massif in the background.

The emblematic and distinctive feature of the design lies in the sequence of pergolas for protection from the sun, which qualify and characterize the whole complex, and at the same time generate comfort and shaded areas to the outdoor spaces. This pergola system is projected through a matrix of plain square fabric panels, distributed at different heights and in different sizes, starting from a basic module unit of 5 metres, which generates 5x5 and 10x10 square elements seeking greater efficiency from the shaded areas and generating an outstanding dynamic image from the city of Denia.
