Al Gharafa Multipurpose Sports Complex

The project is one building into which two specific sports are imbedded, firstly a multifunctional indoor stadium for 10.000 spectators and secondly a swimming and diving pool facility.

The initial concept of the project it that of a Wave; a flowing roof, under which the pools are located and above which, is the multiuse stadium roof. The symbolism of the wave and the shells of the main façade have strong local cultural references.

It is meant to become a new reference for sports architecture in Qatar and the world but it also has a strong vocation to serve the community around. The whole complex, along with the football stadium for 2022 will become one of the main sports destinations in the city of Doha.
