Competition - Tennis Arena
Client: Qatar Olympic Committee
Location: Doha, Qatar
Size: 50.000 m2
Spectators: 10.000
The existing tennis facilities in Doha are not up to the recent level of tennis competitions in the country. Qatar is looking to host one of the best tennis tournaments in the world and therefore needs to upgrade their tennis city as it stands.
The design is for a new tennis stadium with a 10.000 spectator capacity and to be a landmark of tennis architecture. Again the project draws from strong local symbolism and culture. The main element which is visible is the Hayma, or mesh shading structure which covers the facades.
This is a unique design which with LED lights allows the whole building to become a video screen. The bowl is sculpted from the half of a pearl, with the seating incrusted within.
