In 2005 Fenwick Iribarren won a public architectural competition for the Lucena municipal stadium and its complimentary buildings that make its construction viable.

The project creates a limited urban complex while respecting the surrounding topography and vegetation consisting of olive groves which become a key element in the design.

The latest tendencies in sport architecture seek to fully exploit the building and its surroundings with complimentary amenities (the sports museum), tertiary activities (hotel, conference centres, restaurants) and leisure (concerts, theatre) that complete the annual building agenda and make it economically viable for the local authorities.
