THE NOU MESTALLA WILL SET A BENCHMARK IN ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Nou Mestalla, which from 2027 summer will become the new home of Valencia CF and its supporters, has been conceived as a benchmark stadium in environmental sustainability. From its inauguration, it will comply with the guidelines set out in the ‘UEFA Sustainable Infrastructure Guidelines’ and will be a building fully integrated with and respectful of its surroundings.
Designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects following the principles of green architecture, the Nou Mestalla will adopt a conscious and environmentally committed architectural approach, aimed at minimizing environmental impact through efficient energy management, responsible use of materials, and the sustainable development of space.
ENERGY-SAVING SYSTEMS
Developing the project, both active and passive measures have been taken to promote energy savings. The widespread use of high-efficiency lighting systems has been planned, with state-of-the-art LED luminaires throughout the building, and especially for the sports lighting of the pitch.
Domestic hot water will be generated using aerothermal systems, contributing to improved building efficiency by reducing the use of fossil fuels and CO₂ emissions. Additionally, photovoltaic panels planned for installation on the roof will provide a clean, eco-friendly, and unlimited source of electricity for the building’s daily use. This system will require minimal maintenance, produce no pollution, and operate silently.
WATER-SAVING SYSTEMS
Water management is another key aspect of the project. Aiming to encourage and promote more responsible use, the Nou Mestalla will not use potable water for pitch irrigation, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon footprint, lower energy consumption, and overall savings in maintenance-related products and resources.
The stadium will also feature a stormwater tank connected to the pitch drainage system and the roof, enabling the treatment and reuse of rainwater. In line with this water-saving strategy, the Nou Mestalla will incorporate a network of low-consumption systems that will save thousands of cubic meters of water per year

FAÇADE COMPOSITION
To maximize the use of bioclimatic principles and enhance the building’s long-term sustainability, both the structure and circulation areas have been designed in response to Valencia’s climate and the characteristics of the site, taking into account factors such as orientation, sun exposure, prevailing winds, and topography.
In this regard, the semi-open design and overhangs will enable significant energy savings in heating and cooling circulation areas, while offering high thermal and acoustic insulation in climate-controlled spaces. This will contribute to better temperature control, improved indoor air quality through natural ventilation, and greater access to natural light.
